How employers and employees view higher education for working adults

During his State of the Union address, the President launched a new upskill initiative, calling on businesses to help workers of all ages earn a shot at better, higher-paying jobs—this is the heart of College for America at Southern New Hampshire University.

College for America helps working adults move their careers and lives forward while helping employers develop a thriving workforce. It partners with businesses, nonprofits, and governments to offer their employees low-cost, competency-based degree programs that are uniquely applicable in the workplace and designed to fit around the busy life of a working adult.

How do we effectively serve both working adults and employers? We invest in research to understand their goals and challenges. We commissioned a research firm to survey 400 business leaders about workforce development strategies and 400 working adults interested in going to college.

Key findings:

► #1 workforce challenge for employers: building talent and leadership (download the study for #2 and #3)

► #1 reason employees want to go back to school: earning a bigger salary (download the study for #2 and #3)

► 76% of employers offer tuition assistance, but only 43% of employees know whether it is offered
